There's some rule (but can't remember exact details) about how if you cross from Kenya to Uganda and return again to Kenya within a certain amount of time, you don't need a new visa. I've not heard that there's much corruption, at least I hope not coz it's something I'm going to be doing myself in September. There's a site called Nairobi backpackers (can't remember exact address but you should be able to find it) that's got lots of information on public transport between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Quite free of hassle. Just make sure you have your passport and visa in check. Usually there is no "cadeau" request and the customs and quarantine officers do not try to convince you that you need cholera vaccination (or a bribe) or that you can pay equivalent of 2 USD just for the stamp in your passport.
