Camping in Southern Africa

I've never been camping before so I'm not really sure what I should take with me. I have a weight limit of 20kg and therefore want to be efficient. My first purchase was a micro towel, any other useful suggestions? Then there is the question of should you take a sleeping mat or not? That all depends on you. Camping tips: Take lightweight, fast dry clothing. Take a small washing line (you get those twisted ones that don't need pegs) A flashlight could be your best friend (one of those small led ones should do - they're very light on battery usage) if you can stick on your head, all the better. While I was in Namibia, I so badly needed a washing line, that was the only thing I missed of my list. Also a head torch was brillant, it was so perfect for having both hands free whilst being able to see.
