MALARIA-HELP!!!

tamara_02 Joined: Sep 06 Points: 87 Posts: 6 Posted: 2006-09-25 14:41:00    Am travelling to Africa for 8 weeks- from cape town through to kenya- so will be travelling through central africa- have been advised to tae Malaria pills from Doctor- but a mate who has been to Africa on numerous occasions says that its not the biggest neccesity- and to use preventative repellents and so forth. Reading through the side effects of all the different pills- Is it worth taking them? only to feel ill whilst on holiday? Any advice would be appreciated! And wear high rubber boots if you are near any water. The group that I was travelling with were also on their way to Kenya from Cape Town and started taking the tablets as they entered Botswana. The side effects is better than the possibility of death. We were so, so, thankful that we had taken Malarone and neither of us got sick. We were definately exposed! So it goes to show that you never know - error on the side of safety.
