I may be going to Sierra Leone for about a month between July-August. I will probably be based in Freetown.

Does anyone have any guidance or info to share...much appreciated.

Hi

Sorry, if you have a choice there are better places to go in West Africa then Sierra Leone. Many years of unrest, poverty, not much to see regarding folklore and wildlife. That are the reasons why I haven't been there during my African voyages. Another Polish traveller was there, see his report (sorry - in Polish): http://www.yahodeville.com/wyprawy/2005westcoast/sierra_leone.html

He knows English so you can ask specific questions via e-mail.

Hope it helps...

Wojtek

Hi!

Tell us if you went, please. I went to Sierra Leone in November 2007. It was great. There were many places to see there. The war had been over and the country was re-inventing itself. People were so lovely! There were great spots to see the chimps - I went to a reserve near Freetown. Nightlife was fantastic, and I only scratched a surface. The country opened a few national parks, all of which come highly recommended. The beaches were fantastic, too - particularly the most idyllic one - River No.2 Beach, near York. See my report on Globo and a long version on my website: krzysztof-dudek.com
