can anyone recommend how to find public transport throughout africa. I'm planning on going south to north if that makes any difference. Also, any other advice about traveling in Africa is appreciated.

In my opinion every country in Africa is worth visiting, each has unique attractions, both cultural and natural. Using mile-wide brush strokes it could be argued that flying from June to September or around Christmas (a ‘peak season’ that can last from November to March if you’re coming from Australasia) is going to hit your budget hardest. Jumping on a charter flight can sometimes save you a bundle if you’re travelling from or via Europe, especially if you pick something up at the last minute.
