I love these colourful temples. What is the pillar used for? Or what does it symbolise?

Looks like it is a small temple,but what is a dedication to, I suppose ,many hours of handwork in representing a a local life.

Excellent exposure but it's too bad the pillar is in the picture. I have a shot of this myself (somewhere), and I think I had to move over to the left or right to get it. Four *'s/
