During my 7 day stop over in Singapore I made a short 2 day trip to the famous city Melaka in Malaysia. Read about what is worth to visit, and what not to miss!
Melaka is one of the most historic cities in Asia. All the herbs did come from there. If you walk through the public market you are gonna feal and smell the spirit! The city is full of contrast. Because Malaysia is developing country there is a lot of poverty all over the place. The scuril thing though is that there might be a barack and right next to it is a supermodern hitech building. You see such scenary all over downtown. Watch your behaviour, you are in a muslim country. Respect the culture. There is a death penalty on the possesion of drugs!
Favourite spots:
Check out the historic buildings all over down town.
What's really great:
Getting there is half the fun, right? There are lots of banana plantations on the way from Singapore to Melaka. This is just amazing. I never saw so many bananas :-)
Sights:
Check out my photo gallery for pictures on Melaka!
Accommodations:
Get yourself a cheap hotel.
Nightlife:
Sorry I have not been to any clubs in Melaka. There is so much else to see.
Restaurants:
Watch out! Don't drink and eat everything. Locals are used to it, but people from overseas often get sick because of the water. So if you order a cool drink, make sure to order it without ice!
Other recommendations:
If you get sick (what might happen because of the food or the humid conditions) place yourself in the downtown Mac Donalds! Sounds stupid, I know. But believe me you are gonna feel better after a while.
