Pottering about Brighton

Brighton travelogue picture
For the second part of our 'Harry Potter' themed trip to England, we visited a friend in Brighton. The train ride there was pleasant, and though we arrived at night, we could feel the ocean air and hear the waves moving the thousands of pebbles that make up the beach. Brighton is an adorable town, great for college age students especially.

Favourite spots:

We didn't spend much time at Brighton's main site, the Royal Pavilion, but we did enjoy fish and chips at it's famous pier. The rest of our day was spent exploring the quaint little streets and shops. My favorite spot of all, however, was the haunting old West Pier, which sadly burned to it's shell five days after we left.

What's really great:

Walking down the beach near the West Pier at sunset was wonderful, as was shopping during the day. We had visited the bath and cosmetics store Lush in London, and we made a second trip in Brighton, we loved the products so much. Clowning around on the half-deserted new pier was also fun, in a kitschy-beach sort of way.

If I go back for an extended period of time (I'm planning on returning in June, but won't have time to sightsee), I'd love to see the Royal Pavilion. The outside was lovely, and the brochure of the inside looked as if it was worth seeing.

Accommodations:

The Hilton West Pier: somewhat expensive for students, but with beautiful, large rooms. Ask for a beachfront view - we ended up with a large balcony overlooking the spooky West Pier.
