information about senegal  IwolSenegal, Tambacounda
Time ago I read in a book about the history of Iwol, the oldest town in Western Africa. Fascinated by its story, I couldn't avoid travelling there to learn from the knowledge of its inhabitants, the bediks.

This is the view on the way to the village. The mountains on the background are the natural border with Guinea, and a marabu told me that until not that long ago, human hunts and sacrifices were sometimes carried out. Notice the small village made of huts. I went through some like that on my way to Iwol, and their childrens, chiefs and marabues always gave me dry fruits and gri-gri (a sort of amulet) so that I was lucky on my voyage.

Lots of good information on a subject about which I knew nothing

Thanks Fred and Hugh.

It has some feeling of adventure but it was most fascinating even to realise that what we see on books and dreams can be turn into reality. I dreamed of that place since I read about it on a book (yes, there is not much information on the net) and seeing yourself in there is really rewarding.
