information about mauritania  AtarMauritania
Travelling by train is one of the best ways to admire the nature, and to have contact and make friendship with the locals while discovering new regions.

This train is, however, a must for any traveler. It connects Nouadibhou, in the atlantic coast with Zourat, in Northern Mauritania, close to the border of Western Sahara. There is only a wagon taking people, since the purpose of the train is to carry the minerals from the mines in Zourat to the factory by the sea.

That makes the train unique, since you board the empty wagons and travel all night long through the desert ( being a passionate of the sky, that night I couldn't sleep because of the amazing views of our natural roof), seeing dunes and huge groups of camels and arrive next day in Zourat. There is one train going each way a day, and sometimes you have to wait for the other train to pass since there is only one rail!

On the way back to the coast you sit on the mineral, and spend the night drinking tea.
