Ushuaia travel tips

Cruz del Sur
One of the cheapest good hostels we found in Ushuaia, with friendly staff and owners. Location is pretty good: just a few blocks from the main street. Dorm rooms. It has a cozy library where travelers hang out and swap stories. One computer for free internet use. Kitchen for cooking, and free breakfast of bread and jam and coffee. more

Tango
There are mainly two types of operators offer excursions sailing the Beagle Channel to visit sea lion colony and lighthouse at the habour. Excursions with small boats (10-25 passengers) are more expensive but simply better than those with big ones (about 70) as it can get closer to the island and offer additional half an hour trek in one of the islands with 360 degree view of the mountain ranges around...very worth taking. Tango (max. 15) is the one I picked. The service was superb and the trip was enjoyable. more

Restaurante Tia Elvira
Family restaurant with exclusive fish. You can check the the evolution in the pictures hung in the wall. Try "Merluza Negra" in any of its types (with blue cheese*****). If you get to desserts don't loose "Panqueque de fresilla". Book in advance, else you have a lot of chances to wait for free tables. 50-70 Pesos per person. more
