I'll be flying to Sydney via Bangkok in May and I'll be stuck at Bangkok airport for more than five hours before gettin back on the plane. Is it advisable to take the train to the city and what can I do/see in a few hours?

Thanks for any kind of help,

Smilla

now that's a tricky one. Personally i'd hide out in the airport til it was time to leave again ;o) Sounds like you've got a great sense of adventure though!

I'd definately stay well clear of traveling by road. Bangkok traffic is a nightmare and can take you hours to get anywhere, unless you can grab a motorbike taxi, and when you have a big rucksack it can be tough going on those!

Unfortunately the major touristy things are on the completely opposite side of the city from the airport.

What exactly do you want from your 5 hours?

Would you risk it, for a biscuit?

the thing is that i tend to be the one afraid of missing a plane but i spend half a day at the airport last time when i was flying to reykjavik via copenhagen and it was sooo boring. i guess it's time for a little bit of adventure :-)

I won't have any luggage with me besides my handluggage, so that won't be a problem. i don't know what you can do in bangkok, i guess i just want to see how an asian city looks like, i have never been there - so any impression i get would be at least an impression.

5 hours! No way.

If you are making a connection, I suggest you kill the 5 hour in the airport. back and forth will be probably 5 hours!

Sarwadeekar!

There is nothing close to the airport.

Try some Thai food, foot massage etc in the airport would probabaly keep u busy for 2-3 hours.
