Hi Globies

It seems to be black market in China for changing USD. Do you have any idea about the rates offered? Is this worth to take the risk? Are there currency declarations on arrival to China now? (Yes, there were declarations when I visited China years ago...)

Thanks

Wojtek

Hi Wojtek

My information date from 2002.

I can't remember whether I had to declare the amount of money carried into the country, but nobody checked anyway.

There was no problem changing money at the banks. If you think you'll get a better exchange rate on the blackmarket you could always give it a try.

I didn't feel like I wanted to take any risk, as china is a country where human rights are not up to european standards according to Amnesty international for instance.

Hope it helps

Martin

Thanks Globies for your opinions...

Back from China I have now own, updated experience: no real blackmarket there! What touts offer is just few jao more per dollar - do not worth the risk: there are fake notes in circulation - take care about 100 yuan, do not accept change in old, dirty notes... There were no comission fee on arrival, but on departure they charge 50 yuan for transaction.

yes u r right ,but there is a huge black market of the duplicate and copied goods in china ,you will get almost every thing in duplicate ,so one must be very very careful with that.
