holiday with daughter

Could anyone advice me the best place in south east asia for a beach type holiday with my nine year old child . I was hoping for my daughter to learn to surf,snorkle etc.Just the two of us so no partying etc. Any suggestions would be helpful.We will travel for one month,Aug -to Sept. It is the "dry" season on the other-side of the equator like Indonesia (recommend Bali and Java) but that in the tropics means "relatively dry".
