Looking for a cheap place to stay in Shanghai

I'm actually planning to homestay but since this will be my first time in China, I don’t know what to expect. I've homestayed in Europe before and I actually liked it; it was so much cheaper than renting an apartment or a hostel. Anyone has experience of doing homestay in China?
