Phuket is a big island, you will need some days to visit it.

Is plenty of big hotels and great resorts at the beach, specially at Patong Beach area.

Clear water, cleany sand, palmtrees and relax but also some activities like tropical zoos, The Thalang National museum, the Wat Chalong, the Phuket town market, the Tonsai and Kathu Waterfalls, the Aquarium, nightlife in Pubs, cabarets, depending on what you like.

The west coast is much more expensive but have also the best beaches.

Scuba diving, cayaking, golf ... Phuket is a place to forget the stress. Enjoy it!

But i preffer the Kho Phi Phi island for a short stay or still better the other side with Kho PhanGan or Kho Tao.

Dani!

Sure, I have a few tips for Phuket, but first be certain WHY you are going there.

Phuket is Thailand's southern tourism showpiece. As long as you can accept that and are not looking for an "away-from-it-all" escape then that's fine.

I've been a couple of times but don't usually stay long. I usually use it as a starting point for travelling the Andaman Coast of Thailand and Malaysia - perhaps one of the most beautiful and relatively untouched Asian destinations.

Anyway, for what it's worth, here are a few of my notes on Phuket Island:

* There’s a produce market and night market near the large Robinson Ocean Plaza in the town’s south-east - well worth a visit.

* The sunsets from Laem Phremthep are spectacular - take someone special.

* The Khao Phra Taew Wildlife Reserve is set among 2000 hectares of rainforest on the island’s interior and is well worth a visit. There are waterfalls to swim in, walks, and a Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre (near Bang Pae Falls). The gibbon centre is especially good and staffed by volunteers from around the world.

* The main market on Ranong Road is fun, and there are a few old Chinese temples and interesting architecture around the nearby streets. Check out the Shrine of the Serene Light. The best shopping bargains are here in town, NOT at the beaches.

* Accommodation: If you like it loud and crowded and you're a party animal, then head to Patong and Karon beaches. If you don't, then avoid them at all costs. Kata Yai and Kata Noi are quieter and more interesting with all facilities. Most of the other beaches are either too remote or not very pretty. Here are some suggested mid-range places, all around the same area – prices are negotiable if you're staying a few days or more:

1. C Tapkaew Bungalows right on the beach at Kata Noi; spacious bungalows on the beach for US$25 (ph. 076-330433, fax 330435).

2. Peach Hill Hotel at Kata Yai; nice setting and pool for around US$35 (ph. 076-330603, fax 330895).

3. Flamingo Bungalows at Kata; great hillside setting, small pool and next to the beach, behind the BoatHouse. Costs around US$20.

* The Kampong-Kata Hill Restaurant is a standout place to eat.

* Check out the art gallery attached to the Gallery Grill at Kata Noi – it’s in the home of famous Thai architect ML Tri Devakul.

Hope all this helps, well, at least a little. If you want to know more you can email me. Believe me though, the best of this area is just a bus ride away from Phuket - mail me if you want to know more.

Ciao and kind regards

Dave

Ohhh, my friend, I would really try to make it to Phi Phi. It is by far the most beautiful island I have been to. Also, the north side of Ko Phan Ang (spelling???) is just great. "Coral Bay/Beach" on Ko Phan Ang is wonderful if you want a quiet time. Sand up until your in waste deep water then to coral for great snorkling..ahhhh, have fun! drop me an email if you want some suggestions.
