Namaste,

The Himalaya is the home of gods, and source of life-giving waters. We know many people come to Nepal because of the attraction of the beautiful Nepali Himalayas, but we feel it is time to change how people go trekking.

Tragically, too many porters die or are crippled every year while trekking. Trekking porters, who are the real backbone of the trekking industry, often work without basic rights and facilities. There is still a lack of appropriate clothing, shelter, good wages, and medical treatment, and no load limits. However, some positive impacts have been made by national and international organizations who are working to improve the working conditions of porters.

As we understand and realize, to improve working conditions and to create a sustainable future for Nepali trekking porters, the efforts of the non governmental organizations and the personal efforts of trekkers are not enough. Nepali trekking companies have the responsibility and opportunity to create a brighter future for porters’, if we become interested enough to provide just a small amount of care and commitment.

Considering this fact, dedicated to improve porters’ working conditions, and hoping to set an example for trekking operators and trekkers, we have established a trekking company called Himalayan Humanity Trekking, with a Vision: “A world in which trekkers experience the magnificence of the Nepali Himalaya and its people, while porters and their families live with economic, social and environmental justice”

Now, we have launched ourwebsite www.himalayanhumanity.com

and I am posting this mail to the members and participants of this forum inviting you to visit our website, in the hope you may have comments, suggestions and ideas about the site, or about creating better working conditions for the porters. Your suggestions will help us to improve our policies for bringing a new world to porters.

With Best regards
