This is one of the most beautiful but less known areas of France. It seems it is more visited by European travelers than American and tour books cater to the more popular areas such as Provence and Bordeaux. The towns seem to come straight out of the Middle Ages and wonderful vinyards are abundant. There are castle ruins everywhere and there is a great mix of both French and German cultures (though the Alsatians will tell you they are fiercely French!)
