At least that's the plan so far. Anyone with experience who would be willing to answer some basic questions?

Quick background: my wife and I are planning an ATW trip for this fall and were thinking this would be a good (cheap) way to get from Hawaii or New Zealand.

Dates and actual ports are flexible.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Living near the port of San Francisco, I see the big boats coming and going and I, too, have often entertained fantasies of traveling by container ship. I was dismayed to learn that, with an average cost of $100/day or more, it's not the bargain transport I had imagined. Still, the idea retains a romantic appeal for me.

My favorite site on the web for this is http://www.geocities.com/freighterman.geo/mainmenu.html

It's very comprehensive and non-commercial. Just remember: "Traveling on a containership is not better than sex, though it does last longer."
