Udine is a reasonably large and very italian city. Beautiful old buildings, cobbled streets, gellato, piazzas and all the hallmarks of a long history. It is about 1 hour north east of Venice on the train
Favourite spots:
The whole city - absolutely beautiful and I didn't spend enough time there
What's really great:
The close proximity to Venice - meant I didn't have to stay in Venice - and the history.
Sights:
The centre of the city has a large old building up a steep drive on top of the hill. Superb views of the city from there and well worth the walk up. The Duomo is a beautiful old building and there are so many other built over the past 1000 years.
Restaurants:
Was taken to my cousin's favourite local restaurant (out of town in a bar up on a hill with beautiful views) and of course that meant it was superb. No idea what it was called, but I had the best pizza I have ever had in my life. Anything else is a pale imitation!
