Nassau travel tips

Café Johnny Canoe
Cafe Johnny Canoe Restaurant and Bar is a truly Bahamian restaurant. Offers Bahamian and American cuisine. Happy hour 4 - 6:30pm daily. Friday night live music. more

Poop Deck
Located at the Nassau Yacht Haven. Open dining with a view of the marina and Paradise Island on the second floor terrace. Great food and drinks, cheerful crowd at night. more

Westwind Club
This place is great! It is off of the main strip, the units are spacious, the staff very helpful, and just a jitney ride away from downtown (about 15 minutes- for $1.00!). A few of the bonuses of this place: bottled water at a very reasonable price (at the grocery store a gallon of water is $9.99!), a small bar with good drinks, and a comfortable feeling atmosphere amongst guests. The beach is extremely small, but you do not have to deal with the locals trying to sell you their goods. The weather was 85% and sunny for almost the entire week (late march). Their is a great shop downtown called Venue Mode that has wonderful woman's clothing. If you are a female and a shopper, do not miss checking this place out! more

El Greco Hotel
It's is well situated, close to the downtown shops and the lighthouse, yet it is right on the 'main' street, therefore it can be noisier than other hotels. They have clean and comfortable rooms. more

Oh Andros!!
Araway Cay is where you'll find many restaurants with Bahamian food. Oh Andros! is one of the restaurants in that 'village' They are open daily from 10AM. They prepare delicious Conch Fritters (see the picture) assorted fresh fish served with fries or rice n peas. They also offer Baracuda ( to be eaten at your own risk) and cold beer. more

Ardastra Gardens,Zoo,Conservation Centre
Admission 12.00$ US per Adult Although personally I don't enjoy watching animals in any kind of cages, Adastra is a Conservation Centre, and is therefore the home of many discontinued birds in wildlife. It is also the home of the Marching Carribean Flamingos and have many Macaws. Please visit the zoo as a portion of your admission will be allocated for the preservation and breeding of many of the birds and animals. The Flamingos have 'Marching' Shows at 10h30AM, 14h20 ad 16h10 Daily There is also a Lory Parrot Feeding at 11AM, 13h30, and 15h30. The Zoo Keeper will have people enter the large cage, distribute the people apples, and the parrots will eat the apples from the people's hand. more

Black Angus Steakhouse
Fine dining in the Wyndham Resort on West Bay Street. The restaurant is located on the second floor, above the casino. Romantic setting with live piano music. Great seafood and steak, accompanied by an eclectic wine selection. Reservation required. more

The Shoal
The Shoal is off the beaten path, but worth the detour. The restaurant mostly caters to local diners; therefore the menu is authentic Bahamian. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Free bus shuttle service is provided to any hotel by the restaurant. Seafood specialties include boil' and stew' fish, and crack' conch. I would suggest leaving room for dessert. The Guava Duff is excellent. more
