While I liked the upbeat and positive tone of melissa's article, please note that she had some misinformation. I have lived here for over 5 years and would like to clarify some points.

May to September is the Worst time to travel in China. Spring weather, which consists of inconsistent temperatures and dust storms leads directly into a summer of high temps and unbearable humidity in Beijing. The oppresive smog hangs on the city, intertwined with the humidity. Since most tourists take their vacation in spring and summer, prices are increased and sights are overcrowded. What's more, the Chinese national Public holiday from May 1-7 is a time when many things shut down entirely. And those wealthy Chinese who chose to travel, inundate the nations historic attractions, especially The Great Wall, which is Chang Cheng (not cheng chang). The best time to go would be September to November, excluding October 1-7 , which again, in National Public Holiday. Temperatures are moderate and dry (though getting cold as you enter November). Skies are as clear as they get in China. Do come to China, and like Melissa said, do try Peking Duck and Hot pot (especially if you come in November
