Travel guide to Damme

Approaching the town

For a perfect day outside of Bruges, the best suggestion is to head to Damme. Ususally people jump aboard the old style steam river boat that takes about 35 minutes. But better still try renting a bike and cycle the 8km route along the canal. It is a really pleasant/picturesque cycle especially as you enter the little town of Damme, you are welcomed by a wonderderful view of a working windmill.

The town is small, but has many roadside cafes and restuarants and is a lovely place to spend the afternoon. The townhall is the town’s crowning glory (that dates back to 1464) followed by the church.

The town is also only 15km from Zeebrugge and the North Sea; with white sandy beaches is a perfect spot from beach/water sports, like kite flying, kite surfing etc. [edit text] [editors]
