Driving Along the Cote d'Azur

My wife and I had always wanted to travel freely along the Cote d'Azur and last summer we got our chance to do it. We had been saving hard but still had to look for budget prices for everything.

We got a really cheap flight and flew into Nice airport. I must say that the French passport control is less stressful than than our own. No threats as my phone was switched on! Just merci and bonjour. One piece of advice though is to try to use some French, it is always appreciated.

We had decided to start our holiday at Monte Carlo and drive along the coast visitng Cap Ferrat, Nice, Cannes, Frejus, Port Grimaud and finally Saint Tropez. We had a rental car which we ordered through Damian at 666carhire.com it turned out to be from Herts but was very cheap compared to going to their web site.

We spent two weeks driving and stopping as we pleased, and one thing that we learned was to venture inland to see some of the beautiful villages and to enjoy wonderful food and cheaper accommodation.

Favourite spots:
Must do's...Visit La Turbie, eat in the red restaurant (can't remember the name) the busy one!

What's really great:
Drive along the Moyanne Corniche with its breathtaking views, but be careful, it is where Pricess Grace of Monaco died at the wheel of her car. Visit Eze nearby, with its ancient village built high in the rock. Walk around the penninsula at Saint Jean. Stop at Villefranche and see the cruise ships anchor in the bay. And above all chill out, when in France...

Accommodations:
The hotel La Fregat ** in St Jean Cap Ferrat is inexpensive considering its position in such an amazingly wealthy area.
