Cairo travelogue picture
Cairo is a beuatiful and very controvesive city. The population varies from 16-20mil. inhabitants. My first encounter with Cairo was the City of Dead. It is a part of the city with family thombs where actually people live. From there you get to see it's diversity of colors, modern architecture, tradition, shops, Islamic Cairo, Coptic Cairo...

Favourite spots:

What sort of a tourist would I be if my favorite spot wasn't Giza Pleateu... Well, the kind that saw more of Cairo, I guess... But Pyramids and Sphinx are something that initiated me to visit this beautiful city that I fell in love with. As most of other people, I aslo thought that Pyramids would be deep in the desert but they are not. They are at the edge of the city, and what amazed me the most is the position on Sphinx. It is face to Cairo, as if it was ment for her to look at the future... During my stay in Hurghada, me and my friend had the pleasure to meet a very nice family that is from Cairo and they went home the same evening when we started our journey towards this oriental jewl. They took us to the longest bridge in Cairo, University Bridge, and we did what people there do during the hot summer nights. They park cars on the bridge and stand there trying to catch a trace of cool breeze if possible. They talk there, asociate and have fun...

What's really great:

I especially liked a small village that is some 12 km's away from Giza and it's called Kerdasaa. It is better known as The Cotton Village. The famous Egyptian cotton is there even cheeper than anywhere else. Why do I say even? Because it is very cheep in general everywhere and still you have to know that no matter how cheep it is for you, you still have overpayed it compared to prices for Egyptians.

Accommodations:

I stayed at Maadi Hotel that is placed in Maadi area. it was nice and clean, the Nile is very close and the service is just fine. What else do you need?

Restaurants:

A few meters from the hotel is a rather nice Italian Pizzeria, but it is also in the spirit of Egypt. You have people smoking sheesha, chilling...
Nile Crystal is a boat-restaurant that takes you to a 2 hours cruise with dinner, belly-dancing show programme. It is a 5 * boat and nice experiance.
