Mostar was a symbol of harmony before the appalling wars following the break-up of Yugoslavia and of hatred during those wars when Croats fought Muslems and the wonderful bridge was destroyed. Now, happily, the bridge has been restored but it will take far longer to restore the harmony between the communities. There is far less casual crossing of the bridge by residents than was formerly the case.
It's to be hoped that the number of visitors willl grow. This is a lovely town to see and visitors may have a role in re-storing the bridge to its former status as not just spanning a river but being a route for intermingling between the communities.
Following up the great Neretva River from Mostar can still give access to a number of Muslim cities such as are not readily to be seen elsewhere in Europe. [edit text][editors]
