Ston is located on the Peljesac Peninsula, a small walled town. It is around 59km northwest of Dubrovnik and unfortunately there aren’t any large hotels or resorts, in fact I’m told there are only two in the town. However Ston it is rich in great scenery and views with wonderful old stone buildings to explore. As well has having the longest fortifications in Europe.
The walls were built to protect Ragusa (the old Republic of Dubrovnik) from invaders, but benefited the rulers when it started producing salt, (as salt used to be valued more than gold. Ston’s salt production dates back roman times, however now it is famous for its oyster production in the calm waters of the sheltered Adriatic Sea. [edit text][editors]
