A beautiful lake in the mountains of western Turkey. The town of Egirdir sits on a peninsula that juts into the lake, so it is almost imposible not to have a room with a beautiful view of the lake and the mountains that hem her in.

On top of the mountain that overlooks the lake and nearby valley. I was there in October and the air was cool, crisp, and perfect for a long walk.

| What's really great: |
|
A small boat cruise, it was less than spectacular. It lasted only an hour and a half hour before some the passengers started complaining of seasickness and we stopped along the shore and had lunch.

The beautiful shimmering blue lake is the reason for coming here and maybe a little hiking in the mountains. The town has housing which is typical of western Turkey.

| Accommodations: |
I stayed at Pension Lale (2001 prices) for $6.50 single room half board. The first night we had all you can eat crayfish, which they called lobster. It was great, but no seasoning. I had a room with a view over the marina.

| Restaurants: |
I ate at my pension which seems to be the norm here. There are some tourist priced restuarants and a few small groceries stores in town.
