The Christiania experiment
Christiania started in 1970 as an autonomous community, in an area previously used by the Danish Ministry of Defence, by people sharing the ideals of freedom and anarchy.
When I was very young, in the hippies’ times, I dreamed to go to Christianshavn, a quarter of Copenhagen, but finally I made acquaintance with somebody and only got hitchhiking to Hamburg, via Amsterdam. Finally went there last year.
Christianshavn is good for a short visit and drink a beer, but not to live there if you are a young boy.
In the entrance they openly offered me marihuana and I, being a very demure person, refused. Except in several individuals whose attitudes seemed philosophical, I only saw avidity and elementary lack of hygiene. But the visit was a nostalgic experience.
I left with relief in direction to my favourite place, Nyhavn 17, to drink a beer with herrings, thanking God for not having gone there in the past to spoil my adolescence when my personality and values were not yet formed.
