The County town of Sussex

Lewes is a lovely historical town some eight miles north east of Brighton on the Sussex coast of England. It has its own Norman Castle and a Priory as well as a house that HebryVIII built for one of his former brides, Anne of Cleves. Built on the River Ouse the town rises from the valley onto the South Downs with some stunning scenery both of the town itself and the countryside around.

Favourite spots:
The Castle, Barbican Museum, Anne of Cleves House, The Dripping Pan and School Hill

What's really great:
The wonderfully different archetecture ranging from the 10th century to the present day, the numerous pubs and general atmosphere of the town.

The Castle, and the views looking from the Castle across the valley to Newhaven, The Downs

The Lamb in Fisher Street The Kings Head and The Swan on Southover

Restaurants:
The White Hart and Shelleys on the High Street
