Surfers Paradise - A Paradise on the Pacific Ocean

Surfers Paradise travelogue picture
Surfers Paradise certainly has more than it's fair share of critics & yes it does have lot's of highrise buildings but look closer & you may find that it has everything that you want!
Beautiful, long, golden, sandy beaches, at least 260 days of sunshine every year, a rainforest nearby & for the kid in all of us four major them parks.
And all those highrises add up to reasonabley priced accommodation with an ocean view as part of the deal.

Favourite spots:

It has to be the beach, it really is beautiful, pick your spot and relax or walk for miles and miles.
In the hinterland behind I have numerous favourite spots, O'Reillys with it's tree top walk. Buy a bag of seed and all the native birds will come and eat out of your hand. Then there is Springbrook falls, The Natural Arch, Purlingbrook Falls, the quaint mountain town of Tamborine with it's taste of Europe and it's famous old pub St Bernards. Nightlife there is loads of it with Jupiters Casino nearby and many nightclubs and restaurants scattered throughout. The shopping is not too bad neither with at least four major shopping centres not too far away.

What's really great:

I love the buzz and action of Surfers Paradise. There is always loads of different people from all walks of the life.
Surfers has really cleaned up it's act too, ridding itself of the touts and revamping the whole centre.
And I still think that our beaches are amongst the best in the world.
There is nearly always something going on depending on the time of the year.

Sights:

Broadwater cruisng through the canals. The four major theme parks, Movieworld, Dreamworld, Seaworld and Wet and Wild water park.
Currumbin Bird Sanctuary where you can meet our unique and native animals.

Accommodations:
Surfers Paradise beach

There are loads of places to stay but as I am biased and manage the Chateau Beachside I have to recommend it. Besides we are opposite the beach, one block north of Cavill Ave and have a great range of facilities including a bar & cafe that boasts the best buffet breakfast in town at only $9.50.
Nearly all the units have views of the ocean & if you wish to self cater to save those few $ most have kitchens.
Mention Globosapiens & if it is offpeak (not Xmas/January or Indy) we will happily give you a discount of 15% with a min stay of 2 nights.
If you don't wish to stay call in and say hi anyway.

Nightlife:
Shooters is the perennial favourite for all those young beautiful things, Cocktails and Dreams is the 18-20 year old crowd and Melba's is always popular with the older set.

Hangouts:
There are at least four Irish pubs in town and Cheers is a popular tavern.
Since I first wrote this report a great new bar/restaurant has opened called Howl at the Moon. It's located on the first floor of the Paradise Centre right in the middle of famous Cavill Mall. With a big balcony overlooking the action, what a fantastic spot to people watch including the local buskers who are really different and very entertaining. Mellow live music. My favourite dish is the Seafood Curry with a tamarind flavour filled with mussels. prawns, fish & rice - fantastic. And for the moment my favourite venue.

Restaurants:
I have so many favourites depending on cuisine. Melbas for it's innovative menu, if they have their Chilli bugs on don't miss them. They are not flying critters but a cross between a lobster and a prawn, delicious.
Cheap, casual dining at the Boardwalk Cafe with pizzas from $6 Australian.
For Chinese, the China House.
There are loads of cheap & cheerful hole in the wall Korean, Japanes and Thai.
The list is endless.

Other recommendations:
Hire a bike and cycle along the never ending bicycle paths with the ocean constantly as a backdrop.
