Despite the fame of grey, boring and burocratic city, Brussels has become the big capital of Europe. As soon as the sun allows it, everyone's out, having lunch in those street terraces. Around the Grand Place, the Ilöt Sacre or Sacred island is an amazing labyrinth made to enjoy some of the more than 200 kind of beers the locals are proud of.

The Grand Place, the heart of the old town: Baudelaire admires this magestic place; Jean Cocteau descrives it as a rich theather; Paul fierens thinks it's a medieval square dressed in a barroc suit. For Victor Hugo, who lived there, is the most beautiful square in the world. There you can find the Hôtel de la Ville (gotic), Salle Du conseil Communal, le cabinet dy bourgomestre, La maison du roi (king's house or bread market)

Hours and hours doing nothing at the Grand Place...amazing. I liked the soul of the city. The market flower art the grand place is unique!

Grand Place, once more, Manneken Pis,Saint Michel and Gaudule Cathedral, Notre Dame du Sablon, Basilique Nationale du Sacré-Coeur, Palais du cinquantenaire (museums: history, army and aviation)

There's a good youth hostel five minutes walking from Grand Place. Jaques Brel, Rue de la Soblonnieêre, 30.

Le Roy d'espagne, rue de Tanora 11....unfortunately too many tourits , but great beer.
