Memphis, is usually explored as a day trip from Cairo as it is located only 12 miles to the south on the west bank of the Nile. Memphis was originally the capital of Ancient Egypt, but today more tourist see it as an open air museum that is a World Heritage Site.

One of the main statues on the site is of Rameses II lying on its back. It is made of limestone and is about 10 metres in length. You are able to walk around this statue and get up really close to see the detail that the ancient sculptures produced. It really is a fantastic place to visit! [edit text]  [editors]
