The City That Never Sleeps

  15 votes
New York City is known for its bustling streets, complex subway system, and tall skyscrapers, but there is another side to New York and it isn't going to involve neck cramps, getting lost, or getting mugged by some punk.

Newark Airport is a good airport to come to. There are less accidents than JFK and La Guardia. I'm just kidding. It is cleaner though. First we went to our hotel, The Chelsea Savoy, in Chelsea. We then split where we wanted to go to with each day we were there. Like Monday- Midtown, Tuesday-Lower Manhattan, etc. Some of the things like the Statue if Liberty and The Empire State Building are planned way in advance. But others like waving behind the window during Fox And Friends can be planned when you get there. Walk as much as you can. Take the subway when you need to get to a place really far away. Take taxis during the night so you don't get mugged.

Favourite spots:
This would definetly be Lower Manhattan or Midtown. I like all the tall buildings and it feels like something impotant is happening. I like Chelsea because it has that eclectic feeling to it. Chinatown and Little Italy also are favorites.

What's really great:
This is probably something you can't do with advanced planning. We entered a recipie for the Cooking With Your Kids Contest. You send in a recipie and, if you get picked, ypu can win a trip to New York and be on Emeril Live. Sitting by the bar and being able to talk to Emeril was one of those things where you tell everybody. Since Food Network is inside Chelsea Market, we didn't have very far to walk.

Sights:

If you like the basics of New York City, like The Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty, the you need an extra-fat wallet, and a grumpy morning because most of that stuff is prime int he morning. If you think Central Park is small, think again. It's HUGE! The size of Monaco. You should spend a whole day there

Accommodations:
The Chelsea Savoy Hotel is a great hotel to stay at. Of course we had a free night because of the contest. Chelsea is a great place to have a hotel because it is in the middle of it all. It might not me close to the other boroughs but it's in the center of Manhattan.

Restaurants:
Carmine's on Broadway is one of those family style restaurants where half-sizes are enough. Chinatown is a great place to eat too. After eating in Chinatown, you can eat some gelato in Little Italy.

Other recommendations:
The museums are a hot spot too. The Sony Wonder Lab, or the ones that surrond Central Park are the best.
