information about guatemala  TikalGuatemala, Petén
The Central Acropolis which is situated between Temples I and II was once a religious center. It had it's own temples on either end, portions of which remain, and featured the "viewing" area for royalty during festivals and ceremonies. Each of the thatched areas covers excavations down to earlier structures where icon masks of the Gods of the Rain and Sky can be seen.
