information about thailand  SukhothaiThailand, Sukhothai
At 70 square kilometers, the best way to see Sukhothai is by bike. Go any where near the entrance and you will see rows of vendors with bike rentals. We chose the newest looking bikes and negotiated (must negotiate) a 10 Baht deal (about $1 US), arguing that it was 7am and no one else was around yet. The early start was a real treat - it was only 30c when we started out but a roasting 35c three hours later, plus very few other people were around.

Sukhothai was the capital of Thailand during the 13th, 14th and a portion of the 15th century. The site is vast, has several lovely ponds, includes some of the world's earliest Walking Buddhas and represents the best of a style named after Sukhothai.

Eire, you are the cyclist? :)

A good picture and detailed comment Eire, I am not always in favour of including people in pictures but this an exception as it adds to the perception of the whole pic, Well observed shot!.

Yep, that is me on the bike, taken by my son Marc. Bikes proved to be a great way to see a number of the ruins we toured. Only down side is the heat...and trying to stay up with a 22 year old.
