St. Katherine - Egypt, Shamål S¿nå' The imposing walls of the Monastery. Just above sit the spartan dormitory rooms occupied by the Monks. St. Katherine's Monastery sits at the base of Mt. Sinai, nestled tightly between mountains in the southern center of the Sinai Peninsula. It is the oldest Monastery in continuous use in the World. Inside St. Catherine's are some of the oldest religious Icons in the world, protected during the Iconoclasty by St. Katherine's remote location. The Monastery serves as a home to 46 Monks and has rooms for 16 visitors - 8 male inside the Monastery Walls and 8 "Guest houses" outside for women.
