Jungle Lodge

information about guatemala  Tikal - Guatemala, Petén

The Jungle Lodge was originally built to house the 1950-1970 Archeology team that did much of the excavation of Tikal's ruins. It is located inside the park of Tikal, just outside the gate to the ruins themselves. The grounds are lush, in the midst of the rainforest. Monkeys and toucans line the tree tops. The rooms are in simple concrete buildings pair two to a building, each with it's own front porch and chairs. They are comfortable and clean, with modern bathrooms and ceiling fans. Electricity is limited to 6am-8am and 6pm to 9pm. There is a large above ground pool with deck to relax in after a day of hiking the ruins (A+++). The on-site resturant serves americanized fare that is okay, but not great.

We had arrange for a 4am wake-up call (knock actually - no phones) to hike the ruins @ sunrise. They not only woke us, but brought a lantern for us to use (no electricity that early).

No internet access.
