Ma Thazin Aung, a Wandering Vendor Girl's by el2995

Rangoon - Burma, Yangon Ma Thazin Aung was a wandering vendor girl that sold postcards to tourist at Rangoon's Scott Market. As my wife and daughter made several trips to the market and I would have to sit on a stool while they bargained endlessly with the vendors, Thazin Aung would come up to me and chat as I waited. She began referring to me as her 'thengyeih-gin' ('friend' in Burmese), and I would normally share what snacks I had with me in my day pack with her.

I can speak enough to make me a bit of a novelty among the locals and really 'break the ice' with them, which makes for some very pleasant and memorable interactions; of course, the Burmese people are always very warm, friendly and welcoming to foreign visitors.
