information about burma  MandalayBurma, Mandalay
The interior buildings of the walled 'Royal City' is a modern recreation of what the former teak buildings looked like prior to being leveled and burned to ash following the shelling of the compound by the British during World War II to defeat the Japanese army and like-minded Burmese rebels. Thankfully, one of the original ornately-carved teak structures (a meditation hall used by the King, which relocated outside the city walls to the East near Kuthodaw Pagoda by the King's son after the King's death) can still be visited.
