Housed in an old French colonial building, Au Lac House was very good. As lunch was provided as part of the tour itinerary, I had a delicious set menu (vegetable soup, crab spring rolls, green mango salad, beef w/ black pepper sauce, stir-fried prawns w/ tamarind sauce, tofu w/ tomato and egg plant sauce and flan for dessert) which, combined with two Hanoi Beers and a black Vietnamese drip coffee consumed while watching the hanoi street scene unfold one floor below through the open balcony window next to my table, put a contented smile on my face and convinced me that Hanoi was my kind of Vietnam.
