Hi Andy/All other fellow members,

Thanks for all the suggestions regarding the problem some of the members are facing with the albums (myself included). Life was chaotic for me during the past few days. Just had a bit more time to come back to Globo now. Being not that technically minded I am having trouble in following Andy's latest advice. Can someone tell me in simple language how to update to a latest version of firefox or try another browser for my albums please. Would greatly appreciate that. Thanks in advance,

Cheers

Hi Kris

Ok some very basic things about surfing the net... I don't really know how much you know so I try to explain it quite basic...

In order to log on to GLOBOsapiens you need a computer that's connected to the internet. on this computer you need a programm that helps you find the sites and displays them--> this programm is called browser. there are several different browsers available with which you can surf the net... some names: internet explorer (microsoft), firefox, mozilla, safari, camino, opera, aol, netscape... there sure are a lot more available ;-)

what andy suggests is that you might be surfing the internet with a firefox browser that is not updated (an older version) that might cause the problem with the albums

so in order that you can really be helped you it's quite important to tell people what your settings are... or in other words with which tools you surf the net...

how you can find this out... quite easy ;-)

First of all you can state your operating system: (windows, mac, unix, linux,...) and which version of it you're running

then you can tell how you are connected to the internet... dial up, broadband, xdsl, cable, wireless etc

perhaps you have a firewall installed, so this is another important information, this can either be a hardware firewall or a software firewall (some names of software firewall companys: mcaffee, symantec, panda, kapersky and endless more)

now you can state the browser you're using and the version number of it. in most browsers you can find your version number somewhere in the help menu: about "browser name"

and if you want to update your browser software you sure find somewhere in the settings search for updates...

hope it helps

Martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the long post. I was away for a few days and hence the delay in coming back. i cheched my computer a bit more and established these facts.

a) I am using a Wndows XP 2002 version on my computer and

b) for browsing I am using internet explorer and as far as I can see that's the only one I use. I have no idea which version it is. How can I check it?

Interestingly it worked well upto our recent upgrade at Globo. Now I cannot open any fotos of any albums at all and it really spoils the fun of viewing the fotos. Do you think I must dowm load any other browsers just to use when I am at Globo? Any constructive suggestions would be welcome as I am getting desperate.

Cheers,

Hi Martin, Hi Kris,

I too miss the slide-shows and am sure they will be working again. I have a very old PC so cannot upload/try other browsers. I tried disabling my popup-blocker and firewall to test if that is blocking, but not (not recommended anyway). I suppose some patience is needed with this and its only a matter oftime.

I think the technology PC's, the internet and GLOBO are giving us are remarkably fantastic and cannt expect everything to always work. This problem remindes of the "GM vs Microfoft" and "Microsoft Dinners 98" jokes at: www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/quotes/computgliches.html

Hi,

you should definatelly not need to download an extra browser for GLOBO. I just tried it on an older system with IE and XP and encountered the same error.

Let me see if that can be fixed within the next minutes.

Regards,

andy

Hi everybody,

thank you for your hint. That was an error which occured on a specific Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser. It is now fixed and you should be able to view the slide shows.

Have fun!

Andy

Excellent, Andy. It's beyond my understanding but that's not difficult in computer worlds. Anyway mine's working a treat now. Thanks a lot.

Cheers, David

Well done Andy, at least I got an error message now asking me to adjust my internet settings, I added "globosapiens.net" to the list of trusted sites for cookies etc in the settings for Internet Explorer 6.0 (AOL 9.0 runs piggy-back on that browser) and wow, the slide-shows now work again.

Does anyone have the proceedure/commands in english? In german they are:

Im IE click "Extras" > "Internetoptionen" (oder im AOL "Einstellungen" > "Internet Einstellungen")

Dann > "Datenschutz" > "Bearbeiten"

Dann im feld eingeben "www.globosapiens.net"

Auf "zulassen" und "OK" klicken und slideshow testen!
