hey travellers!!! there's a great program in Spain called ENGLISHTOWN where you live and socialize with spaniards in ENglish, all expenses paid (once you're in madrid), for 7 day periods! Check out www.vaughanvillage.com . There's no catch, they look for natives to speak to their clients. My friends and I had a great time last week. A must

Hi englishgal,

Thanks for the post. This sounds like a fantastic way to spend a week!

Did you actually learn much about the Spanish participants you were with & what makes them tick? How long in advance did you need to contact them before you went, I see they say up to 3 weeks but could you then nominate your dates?

I hope that you will post a couple of stories on to globo.

This is a really positive thing to put on the forum.

Cheers,

Kerrie

hey downundergal!

well, i wanted to go in 2 weeks and they were really quick in responding to my application. if you apply for a program 2 or 3 months up the road they may process it a bit slower. when you apply, you already mention your date preferences (you give up to 3 or 4 choices, in order of prference) and they match you with a group. i really did learn a lot about the spaniards. it was a great bonding experience. everything from singing songs at the dinner table, talking about different wines, different fiestas, customs, traditions... its a great way to get an inside peak into the culture. plus the spanish clients are usually well-to-do and very educated and they treated us very well!!

sign up, i swear you'll really love it! :)
