does anyone know of any big events in Europe in August 2008. I am especially interested in events happening in Eastern Europe

i am planning a charity rally from leicester to Athens, and would like for the teams to visit places on the way.

Email me at leicestertoathens@googlemail.com

and visit the rally website at www.leicestertoathens2008.co.uk

thanks

21 countries in 21 days? That sounds more like a race! I will love to join if I can find a sponsor. Anyway, I will consider joining the second half of the adventure if I can put a 2-4 team together till then.

You will need to plan your trip/route very well and specially the budget. In some countries travelling freeways (toll roads) are expensive and the country roads very slow. For a unstressed three-week road trip I suggest a rather simpler northerly route :

1. UK

3. Belgium (via ferry)

4. Netherlands (some can catch up via ferry from UK)

6. Germany

9. Czech

11. Slovakia

11a Austria (very small sidestep, Vienna between Bratislava and Budapest)

12. Hungary

13. Romania (some may choose to skip, shortcut possible)

14. Bulgaria (some may choose to skip, shortcut possible)

21. Greece

If this works well then next year 2009 do the more expensive and complicated south route (your original numbering kept)?

1. UK

2. France (via tunnel)

5. Luxembourg

6. Germany

7. Switzerland

7b. Liechtenstein

8. Italy (only Milan-Venice-Trieste?)

8b. Slowenia (not Slowakia!)

8c Kroatia

18 Bosnia Herzogovena

20 Serbia

20b Kosovo (some may choose to skip)

17. Montengro (some may choose to skip, shortcut possible)

16 Albania (some may choose to skip, shortcut possible)

15. FYRO Macedonia

21. Greece

These are less zig-zag but teams that run into problems have chances to catch up, short-cut. Teams choosing to return by road can still take the south route back to UK (another 2-3 weeks?) and in 2009 anti-clockwise route?

For events, one needs to look at the tourist information services for each country and city. Hope some GLOBOmembers may also have ideas for August 2008 for each their individual cities on the way. For Munich:

www.munichfound.com/eventsday.cfm?daterequest=8/1/2008 (will grow)

Many charity organisations & ventures have boiled down to individuals wanting to run office costs in Europe or wanting to travel for free. We assume this is not the case here!]
