Hi

In case you are are not aware, Eurostar the train service from London to Paris and Bruxelles is moving from Waterloo to St Pancras in the north of London.

It will be using Britain's first high-speed railway - is is the largest rail project to take place since railways were first introduced more than 150 years ago. Work commenced on the first stage of the new route (CTRL1) in 1998 and was completed in 2002. The second stage, which includes St Pancras International Station plus intermediate stations at Ebbsfleet and Stratford International, commenced in 2001 and is now completed.

The new route will enable Eurostar to significantly reduce journey times. Therefore, Paris will be 2hrs 15 mins, Brussels only 1hr 51 mins and Lille 1hr 20 mins from St Pancras International on non-stop services. As Eurostar trains will be travelling on a dedicated high-speed line, it will have better punctuality.

London's beautiful and historic St Pancras station built in 1868 is being transformed into a modern world-class terminal for Eurostar and domestic rail services. St Pancras will be a destination in itself and will provide very good connections to rest of London and UK.

Journey times:

St Pancras International to Paris 2h 15 (old time 2h 35)

St Pancras International to Brussels 1h 51 (old time 2h 15)

St Pancras International to Lille 1h 20 (old time 1h 40)

The new station of St Pancras will be formaly opened by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh on the 06 November 2007.

But the day to remember is the 14 of November 2007.

Ebbsfleet International: 19 November 2007

EUROPE’S DESTINATION STATION: St Pancras!!

St Pancras is a grade 1 listed building, first opened in 1868 and has been lovingly restored retaining many of the original features.

After a multi-million pound refurbishment, this Victorian masterpiece will reopen with boutique arcade shopping, a farmers’ market selling fresh produce daily, a world class brasserie and Europe’s longest champagne bar!!

Interesting information Isabelle,

I would love to experience high speed rail travel oneday and specially the English Channel Tunnel. Such connections are sometimes quicker than air because the airports are so far away from the city centres.

Germany can hardly keep up with infrastructure projects like this because they are always blocked or delayed for years by environmentalists and politicians seeking to make themselves more important. Today there was another such a demonstration against a planned magnetic high speed (10 minute) connection between Munich's centre and the airport, sadly.
