Guidance sought for a one day visit in May - and please don't tell me I need a week, month or millennium. In general we prefer smaller places and we are concentrating on Umbria and Abruzzo.

However we can't fly back from Pisa [even for £2!] without seeing a bit of Florence and we've never been.

In other words, what's least missable?

Thanks

David

Hi David

Make it there early enough to fill in the most possible :-)

I gather you like markets... the meracto centrale boasts of all sorts of delightful food! I could spend days there but this could also be due to my profession.

The Duomo of course and Ponte Vecchio are musts and visiting firenze without looking at the David sculpture from Michelangelo is like going to München and not drinking a weissbier :-) even more so that you are name buddies :-)

For Lunch try the Ristorante Il Latini! Absoulutely fantastic. Well it's ten years since I've been there but thinks it's still around at least it's still in the michelin guide. Look here for the travel tip: http://www.globosapiens.net/mortimer/travel-tip-il-latini-1056.html

or

www.viamichelin.com for their report you can also find a good map and tourist guide on the same site.

Hope it helps

Martin

Thanks to you both. I'm just making a final list now - going on Thursday.

Best wishes

David

just returned from trip to Italy. Florence was on the itinerary. Beautiful city. Suggest that you try to get a city guide for about 2 hours to just walk through the main area....try to get to the Uffizi Museum. That should be enough to get a taste of Florence. Good Luck...enjoy
