Hi people! I'm 19 yo girl traveling solo to Madrid in late May. I finally narrowed my mind and I’m choosing between Metropol, Dulcinea, and maybe Hostel Patria.

First of all, I cannot live in a dirty place. Cleanness (esp. bed and hot pressure shower) is the most important factor when I choose a place to live. Please don't get me wrong. I don't expect hostels to be 5 star hotels or anything. I've stayed several hostels in New York so I know what I should expect. I was okay in most of the hostels but there were places where I didn't feel like taking off my clothes in bed or even taking a shower because of insanitation.

And then location. I like going to out, to clubs or bars at night. Because there are no tube running at night, less frequent night buses and expensive cabs, I want to stay pretty close to those areas.

Actually as long as I can get a clean, somewhat central locationed and not that expensive bed, I don't really care about noise, rude staff, bad breakfast, etc.

Gran Vía seems so cool because of its location but I heard it's kinda dirty. (No offense. I just have no idea) Metropol is like an alternative(?) to Gran Vía. Is it clean? I'm just wondering if it's walkable distance to the center or if there are frequent (and maybe convenient) transportation.

Now I sound so picky. It's not that I'm looking for a "perfect place" to stay...but I just want this to be detailed. So I really need your help please. How do you think those hostels? How was your experience? Or do you have any other recommendations? I just want to hear many opinions and get the general ideas. Thank you so much!!!

Go to Metropol Hostel. This is a mix between a hotel and a hostel. The rooms are really clean, they are not very big (like 3 or 4 persons maximum per room). They have TV, bathroom... Internet service is free. The breakfast is included and it is economic.18.5€ per night. This place is very well located, in Gran Via.. with the subway station just in front of it (near from “La Puerta del Sol”). Also, there is a washine machine (and a dryer)... it costs like 4€.. the soap is free... I think is a good choice if you want more privacy, a safe, economic place..

I hope it helps..

Metropol...because of everything passcall mentioned plus the people are very helpful and they have lots of information so its a great place to start a trip. Its very conveniently located, 2 blocks from Puerta del Sol subway, within walking distance of many monuments and other sightseeing musts and las Huertas...for nightlife. By the way its at the very end of calle Montera which connects to Gran Via...so its only a couple of buildings away.

Thank you so much for answer!!!

It looks like Metropol Hostel is a good option. I search on Lonely Planet web and it appears well ranked...

I'm going to book a bed there... Apparentely, it fulfills all my needs: near the center, well communicated, young people, .. Besides, it looks like they offer bar-tours in the night..

Ok.. I will tell you about my holiday.. thanks!!

Hi there:

I just want to tell you.. I just came back from Madrid. We stayed at Metropol Hostel and we loved it. Well!!! we loved the city... the food, music, nightclubs, museums... this city is great. We spent a lot of time with a group from the hostel. It seems that the staff always organizes activities (tours...) all around Madrid.. and parties in the same hostel...

I soo happy..
