Hi - I'll be in Portugal next Saturday, arriving in Lisbon and planning to travel east/south... would appreciate any recommendations of towns to visit... I'll eventually be going into Spain, visiting Seville. So please let me know!

Even though you will have to pay twice what I do for train travel, you will find it cheap enough. (Greater age does have the odd benefit!)
As always it depends on your tastes but I can't imagine anybody not finding Evora impressive. Estremoz is best on a Saturday, when the market is in full swing. Personally, I love the hill towns of Castelo de Vide and Marvao but if you want shopping - - -.

I am not a lover of tourist coasts but I do like Tavira, set back a couple of km, very much.

While in Lisbon, you might wanna take a daytrip out to Sintra, ard 40mins by train which is inexpensive.

That depends on your citizenship. I am a US cititzen and Spain did not require one, when I went. Spain is part of the EU.
