I've booked a cheap flight to Valencia for 4 nights in April.

I should welcome any advice on Valencia itself and near trips, Maestrazgo, Teruel and Morella. I'm not necessarily meaning to go to all of them but I would like to make an informed choice.

Thanks and good wishes,

David

Hi David,

If you enjoy Espana away from the “costa’s” then Valencia, Spain’s third largest city, you will soon discover is one of its best kept secrets. It is one of my favourite Spanish cities - I have been visiting family friends there for over 20 years. It is busy but non-touristy. The ciudad vieja or old town you will soon discover is full of narrow streets, fortified gateways and individual “proper” old fashioned shops; it is easy and safe to walk around. It has a wonderful cathedral, quite a few ancient churches - certainly worth looking at and a truly excellent market. They also happen to have one of the best soccer teams in the country and one of the most magnificent grounds; it’s almost antique and is reminiscent of a bull ring arena! Some great local cafes also around that bustling area

Of course Valencia is the home to Paella and I have tried it many times both home cooked and at restaurants. My favourite restaurants are all on the beach to the north of the city centre but they do get very congested at weekends and particularly on Sundays and Bank Holidays. You are of course eating in Valencian restaurants and not tourist places so the food is authentic the prices realistic – all very Spanish!

Teruel is certainly worth a journey if just for its setting. Morella similarly has a magnificent location and appears to be built in tiers – watch the climbing here though!. I have not been to Maestrazgo, so can’t help you there.

Enjoy,

Cheers, Brit.

Wow! Thanks, Brit. I don't like wishing time away but roll on April. Its less than £60 return - including taxes!

Cheers, David

Hi there...

If you are going to Valencia, why don't u try also Barcelona instead of Teruel??

I have heard this place has nothing interesting, it's really cold. On the other hand, Barcelona is such a beautiful city!!.. The food is great, the weather will be much better, you have a lot of to go (Las Ramblas, Paseo de Gracia, Mont Juic, TIbidabo.. etc.. etc.. etc).. In case you wanna go there, I also can recommend you the place I stayed at... It is Gothic Point.. give it a try.. you will not regret.

Thanks, Daniella, but I've been to Barcelona. [I've done a report on it]

As for Teruel, I have one friend who races about it, although I've heard the other side as well.

I'm still not completely decided.

Cheers, David
