In Åland this town, like others is called by its Swedish name of Kastelholm, Swedish being the sole official language of Åland. It is easily accessible by bus from the island capital of Mariehamn.
As its name would indicate, there's a substantial castle, though ruined now, but it has a number of other attractions. Top must be the excellent free Open Air Museum but there is also a Prison Museum adjacent.
The situation of the place is fine and there is a very attractive walk to the ancient church of Sund. [edit text][editors]
